Frequently asked questions
What can I buy or sell?
Powerboats, Sailboats, PWC, Trailers, and Marine Accessories. RVs are coming soon; RV auctions and seller submissions are not open.
Who can sell privately?
Individual marine asset owners may use the Private Seller Marketplace. Identity, ownership, disclosures, photos, and admin review are required before publication.
Who can sell commercially?
Approved marine professionals only: marinas, harbormasters, lenders, insurers, dealers, and recovery agents. Commercial inventory stays separate from private listings.
Which sale formats are supported?
Auction only, Buy It Now only, or Auction + Buy It Now. An optional auction reserve remains confidential; buyers see only Reserve Met or Reserve Not Met.
How do donations work?
Captain’s Charity Boats uses a separate intake and review process. Acceptance and charity selection are confirmed by the team; tax documentation is not automatic.
Can I inspect before buying?
Check each listing for available appointments, title or identification disclosures, known defects, pickup deadlines and transport arrangements.
Bid with a clear plan.
Buyer bidding policy. $50 card authorization is required before bidding. Winning buyers have seven days to pay. Nonpayment charges the authorized $50 and restricts the buyer; unsuccessful holds are released. Authorization must cover the auction and payment deadline.
Seller payouts default to held until confirmed payment, signed release, title release and pickup proof; admin release is required. Only admin-marked Trusted Sellers can qualify for immediate payout after buyer payment. Open cases, holds and restrictions block release.
Use Harbor-Bid messages for seller questions. Every message is reviewed before delivery. Sharing personal contact details or arranging an off-site transaction is prohibited.
A bid in the final 2 minutes extends the auction to 2 minutes remaining. Launch pilot private sales: 7.5% buyer premium + $99 document fee; seller pays 0% commission and no listing fee. Industry professionals: no seller/listing fee; buyer pays the displayed premium + $99 document fee. Taxes and transport are extra. Inspect before committing; read title and condition disclosures.
